Hi Everyone!
I just wanted to drop by and thank you for the opportunity to adopt Joey (formerly Charlie). It didn't take him long to settle right into our home and get the whole house-training thing down. Everyone that meets him thinks we bought him from a hybrid breeder and are always surprised to hear that we adopted him. Joey has gained a few pounds since we adopted him but still insists on squeezing into his little "sister's" bed. He is making great progress with his fear of strangers and has even made a few male friends! He couldn't be happier with Joey, he brightens our lives each and every day!
Thank you, The Higgins Family
9/15/09 Annie Fannie Sunshine (formerly: Sunshine) We absolutely love Annie! She loves to go on car rides and play in the river; we're also convinced she is the most spoiled dog ever!!!! Thank you!

If you read Katie’s bio, you know we are the lucky family that got Harry (now Stonewall) too! What a thrill it is for us to experience that sibling bond the two of them share. They are always touching, rolling on each other, play biting, or baying at each other until one gives chase. Stoney has adapted to his new role with such natural ease that it has been smooth transitioning into our family from the beginning. Even big brother Inky and Louie cat have both warmly received him as if he’d been a part of our family all along. Stoney is playful, loving, and full of sweet naïvety and wonder, so unlike his sister who is savvy, and a bit street-smart. She knows how to manipulate a situation to her advantage. It seems one has all the innocence and the other all the appearance of it. He did however figure out the doggy door right away, loves the freedom of the yard, feels like he’s in heaven with an endless supply of toys to chew, and treats when he’s good and sometimes just because. He is still very puppy clumsy and falls out of bed or rolls off the couch regularly. Bumper pads and cushions are a regular in our house now-a-days. We love his antics – especially the time he got his head stuck inside the Beggin Strips bag! He is truly a comic disguised as a gentle little beagle but we enjoy the clone and couldn’t have asked for a better companion!! Thank you. Darcy Thatcher

Odie is the most happy and easy going pup anyone has ever seen. At home he even has his own swimming pool that he shares with his visiting friends. He now weighs just a little over 17 lbs but still growing. He loves to travel on and off road, go boating, just hang out with folks, play with any other dog that comes to visit...just loves kids of all ages and just lets them hang on him and give him lots and lots of kisses. He is amazing how he never does anything but just gently lay there and doesn't even lick them, just touches them with his nose. I couldn't have ever wished for a better dog than Odie. Thank you and all the rescue folks that made him possible. Judi, Bill & Odie

Hi everybody! It's Tammy (well, my family calls me Zoie now). I was adopted a little over 3 weeks ago and let me tell ya, it wasn't a day too soon. I've made so many new friends and done so many cool and exciting things I don't know where to start. I have a really great yard to run in, a brother and a sister to play with (you remember Sandi and Buster don't you?) and they let me sleep right in the bed with them! They even cover me up when I look cold. I get treats and all the food I want. I think i've even put on a little weight. And guess what? I went to "the Spa" and got my hair washed and cut and my nails done. They even put a bow in my hair...lol. Well, here's some pictures to let you see how I'm doing, and guys, Thanks for all you did for me while I was there with you. I really appreciate it. Love, Zoie

It has been 2 weeks now and I have adopted one great pup. In the last two days she has started running to the back door on her own so we are well on our way to being potty trained. Sophie knows her name, sit, down, over, paw and other paw. She is one smart girl. She is such a loving little dog and I can't imagine not having her. She likes to sit on the deck with her frosty paws and toys. She took her first swim yesterday. She is also a very fine gardener. No weed or root is match for her. Thanks again, we are definitely a great match. Lori and Sophie

Attached are a few photos of happy Isabella (now Katie). We’re enjoying her so much and so is big brother Inky and Louie cat. Katie came to live with us April 17 and since that time she has mastered the doggie door, learned to sit for her food and snacks, understands “go pee” and sleeps through the night! We’re still working on her bad habits…stealing cloths from the laundry room, dragging the toys and the cat bed outside, and unmaking the bed. She used to bark at every dog we saw on our walks. Now she doesn’t even bother. She only makes a sound when someone’s at the door or she’s trying to encourage Inky to chase her around the house. She is such a joy and truly the companion for Inky we were searching for. If her brother Harry is anything like her, the family who adopts him is in for a real treat. Darcy Thatcher

We adopted Peter in October (now named Cody). Thought you’d like to see pictures of him settled in his new home. He is a bundle of energy (some say destructive, he says ‘Entertainment, Mom!). He is very sweet and we love him dearly. All the best! Kim McIntyre & John Thompson
Gizmo (formerly Puggles) likes to hang out under the cars so he ends up with grease spots on him, I would give him a bath but he either goes in the ditch the next day or gets under the car again. I have given up on the bath thing just let him be the farm dog that he is, he also likes to swing on the porch swing with me, and the funniest thing yet is that I can't put my horses in the round pen and use the whip to encourage them to get some exercise, because gizmo won't stop chasing it. He is such a goofball but he has been one of the best dogs I have ever had. Wouldn't trade him for the world.
Martha

This is Murphy O’ Maher. We adopted her from your shelter 3 years ago and we just love her to pieces. When we first saw her picture on Petfinder.com we were in love. We were ready to come pick her up when we got awful news that she was exposed to Parvo and we would have to wait another 2 weeks to make sure she was okay. Well, she didn’t catch it and after a 3 hour drive we finally got to bring our little girl home. She was just 10 weeks old when we got her and what a sweetheart. She is such a joy. Murphy is now a city girl living in Richmond, Va. with her older sister Sophie and her best friend and brother Chunk. She is a regular at our local SPCA dog events such as the Canine Café and Dog Jog. She has become well known in Richmond for her beautiful markings, photogenic personality, and of course those wonderful French kisses. Thanks again!!!-Brian and Kelli Maher

Louie~ Best dog ever. Bill and I are just so happy with the little guy. He is already crate trained, hasn't made one mistake in the house and slept in his crate next to our bed from 10:30 to 6:00 and just woke up with a very slight whimper. Been outside a lot and loves the beach and plays like crazy in the sand.

I just wanted to let you know how wonderful Tiger is fitting in with our family and his new brothers 2 legged and 4. The boys love him and he loves them so much. Tiger and Ty (my other 4 legged son) get along better than I could of imagined, they sleep in the same kennel, and don’t sleep unless they are in there together, eat out of the same bowl, and play keep away from each other. They are very funny together. Adopting Tiger was the best thing we could of done. Thank you all, Becki

Wanted to let you know that Tillie (AKA "Leah" to DCHS) is doing well here in Salisbury. We adopted her from you with Mike's help on Dec. 31, 2008. Attached are a few photos. She has a good home. Thanks, Jeff

Our family adopted Prince (now named Konrad) in mid-February. As soon as we saw his photo on Petfinder.com, we knew he was something special. He fit into our home and family immediately. He became instant best friends with our senior dog Jasmine, and he has almost won the trust of the cats... we're still working on that a little! We knew Konrad was heartworm positive when we adopted him, but his treatment is going well. He is 100% housebroken and has excellent manners. He's only been with us a few weeks, but he has settled in with his toys, warm bed, and a houseful of people and other pets who are very glad he is here! The photos are of Konrad, and Konrad with Jupiter (cat). Thanks so much to everyone who works with the animals and to everyone who adopts from shelters and rescues! Please, please PLEASE keep your pets on heartworm preventative!! Carolyn and Dan Matthews

I don't know if you remember Harley. My family and I adopted her in November and I just wanted to give you an update. We love her so much. She has been such an excellent addition to our family. I run a family child care and she could not be better or more tolerant with the toddlers. My son just adores her. We did drop the "r" out of her name and rename her Haley. I thought I would pass along a pic of my son and her lounging on her favorite chair by the window. Sincerely, Pamela Cartee

This is
Bear bear, he is a cockapoo that we adopted in January. We love, love, love him and couldn't imagine our lives without him. We go to the dogpark almost every day, where he plays with his friends and plays endless games of fetch, he is quite a runner! He is our little monkey and entertains us constantly with his funny personality. At the end of the day, he snuggles with us in bed on his back and all 4 paws in the air! Thank you so much for saving our special little man:) Amie and Drew Myers

We hope to get a photo of Fuzzy to show you, here's a note from his new Mom:
Just a little update on Fuzzy. I adopted Fuzzy about a month ago and he is just the best little dog I have ever owned. There is something to be said about adopting a senior animal. He has provided such love for our family and has just adapted so well. Just wanted to thank you for letting us adopt such a wonderful little fellow. He has become such a major part of our lives and we dearly love him. 2/26/09 Please find photo of Fuzzy. It will be hard to recognize him as he came to us being on the streets for awhile with knots and rather long unkempt hair. He has since had a hair cut and looks like a little furry bear. Also has had his teeth cleaned only to find that he had a tumor in his mouth that was suspicious which gave us a big scare. We prayed alot and luckily it was benign. We love him even more that his life will continue for a long time and he will be with our family. Thank you again. The Lee Family
Rusty

2/18/09
Rusty was one of 11 dogs and puppies that was rescued from an animal abuse case and had been in foster care. As you can see this is a very happy ending for this puppy.
"Rusty is doing great Sharon! His leg seems all better and he loves to run as fast as he can in the yard playing catch. Thanks again and we'll keep sending update pictures as he grows."
Dino

December 09
Dino was happily adopted at Christmastime by the Tobins who had been fostering him for several months. He started out being an extremely timid dog from former abuse but has learned as time goes by that there are nice people in this world that he really loves to be with. He is coming out of his shell more and more every day. It's a good feeling when you know you've earned an animal's trust.
Brigus

Brigus. He is doing great. We finished fencing the back yard in April. They have almost a half acre to run around in. Brigus is not quite as tall as Buddy but he can run like the wind and he loves to chase squirrels and birds. When he gets going Buddy can't catch him.
Lloyd. See how happy Lloyd is with his new family and how happy his family is with him. Looks like love.
Jack (Formerly "Winston")
11/29/08
From Pam: Jack has settled in so well. He loves to be with everyone. He has graduated to sleeping in our bed with us, spoiled baby!! He'll climb in bed with my daughter, Emily in the morning and he will cuddle with anyone who is willing.
